How to Read Crypto Volume Spikes (Without Getting Rekt)

Every day, dozens of tokens flash on trending lists. Most of that noise is useless: thin caps, wash volume, or bots front-running a narrative. A volume spike scanner only helps if it filters honestly and tells you what you are actually looking at.

1. Volume ≠ price direction

A spike in 24h volume means activity accelerated — not that price must go up. Liquidations, hedging, exchange listings, and arbitrage all pump volume without a sustained trend. Treat every alert as a starting point for research, not a buy signal.

2. Use filters — or drown in junk

3. Read severity labels

• VOLUME ALERT — passes cap + 100% vol signal
• HIGH VOLUME — 300%+ vol Δ and $25M+ 24h volume
• CRITICAL SPIKE — 500%+ vol Δ and $50M+ 24h volume

Higher severity = more unusual activity. Still not a prediction.

4. Respect the delay (free tier)

The free feed on LinkSource.app is 15 minutes delayed. By the time you see a critical spike, price may have already moved. Never FOMO-click "trade now" on stale data — verify the chart and book before acting. Premium members get real-time timestamps; everyone else should assume lag.

5. Cross-check before you act

2. Check whether volume is spot, perps, or one-sided.
3. Read recent news — listing, hack, unlock, or pure speculation?
4. Size positions assuming you are late, not early.
